| Obituary Kenneth "Ken"/"Kenny" Dale Wickersham (Jr.) [5-13-46 Berkeley, California; 3-21-11 Redding, California
KENNETH DALE WICKERSHAM, JR.
1946-2011 Kenneth was born to Kenneth and Muriel Olive Wickersham in Berkeley, California, May 13th, 1946 with all the joy and dreams that parents have for their newborn. Soon after Kenneth’s birth, Kenneth Sr. moved his young family back home to Augusta, Ohio. Fate would not be on Kenneth’s side. At the young age of five, he became one of those thousands of Polio statistics. A very real statistic for Kenny and Muriel. Kenneth would endure years of painful physical therapy. The family would never be the same. Kenneth was not to make those bonds with school mates or work associates most take for granted. He never found friendship in golf or tennis or any other sport. For a short period in his life he did work and have his own apartment while living in Los Angeles. Unfortunately, his disabilities were just too much for him to overcome. What he did have, was his family. He moved with Kenny and Muriel to Redding, California and lived with them until their deaths. Muriel died in 1997 and Kenny died in 2004. In 2004 the "Angels" of Marquis Health Care took over. He found his home there. What a home it was! Computer, DVD Player, and Plasma Screen TV. Kenneth, with his electric wheel chair and some cash in his pocket, was on the go daily. A typical day was breakfast at Denney’s and off to Kmart for whatever took his fancy. His eclectic room became legendary in the home. With all his adversity, he could laugh like no one I know. Ken enjoyed computer games, a good story, the 49ers, and his niece Amy Wickersham. He adored Amy. Her grandparents and Ken watched Amy everyday from the time she was 1 years old until she was 12. In that time, a forever bond was formed. It was amazing to see a 4 year old work the computer keys like a pro. Kenneth Dale Wickersham, Jr. left this world, March 21, 2011 in Redding, California. Ken leaves a daughter, Kerri Wickersham Lowrie; sister,
Geraldine Sanders; brother, David Wickersham; and 4 nephews, Greg, Gary,
and Terry Turner, Tim Wickersham; and his niece, Amy Wickersham. |
